Review.
For this project we had to do a 90 second advert for the NHS, ours was to promote the benefits of becoming a member.   We started off by having a brain storm to come up with some ideas; we then decided on a few and picked our chosen one from them. Our idea was to show people signing up to become a member and then daydreaming of what the benefits of becoming a member.
We filmed in the hospital and edited the footage on Adobe Premier Pro. We had to highlight all the benefits of becoming a member and how to become one.
We had four people in our group and we were each given different tasks to complete, this worked well as it meant we had enough time to complete each of the pre production sheets and plenty of time for filming and editing. The pre production tasks included Location Recce, Call Sheets, Risk Assessments, Production Diary, Storyboards, Treatments and Production Schedule.
Our strengths were in the planning of our product. All pre production sheets were completed to a good standard and we knew what we were meant to be doing and when because we had used the resources given to us correctly.
We had to rearrange filming dates because of people’s attendance, therefore we were also unable to view and edit footage as we couldn’t get onto the log in it was being kept on as that member of the group was not in on certain days.
If we were asked to a project similar to this we would probably try and use more locations and camera angles. It might also be an idea to take more of the same shots so that we have more to work with. I think next time we could also try playing around with the lighting a bit more to make it look more professional.
Our final product did meet the requirements set by the initial brief as we were asked to promote the benefits of becoming a member and i think we have managed that with our product.

Our NHS task was to create a video advertising ‘Become a Member’, the video had to give out key information and persuade people of all ages to join the scheme. The video could only last for 90 seconds and had to be soundless.  In our video we focused on the main benefits you receive for being a member so to show people the benefits we acted each of them. This way people we gain a greater understanding and it also looks a lot better the words on a screen.
Strengths + Weakness of our final product
The strengths in the final product has to be the editing and the putting together of the video, considering we didn’t have that many shots to work with and some of the shots we did have couldn’t be used for other reasons, the video cuts and runs smoothly. Another thing that worked really well was the daydream effect that was created in after-effects. It stands out and brings the video to life.
The weakness in the final product is the story line and the camera work. We couldn’t manage to film all the benefits like we wanted so we had to miss small bits out which makes the video difficult to understand. As for the camera work it was okay but we could have done with having different angles and shots. This would have made the video easier to edit and piece together.
Working in a Group
There wasn’t any real problems with the group other them some of the members where lazy and didn’t get much done, but when it came down to it we all got stuck in to get the work done.  Other then that the communication in the group could of been better, everyone was being too nice and didn’t really anything when they wasn’t happy. But overall the group worked together well and we all played our part to get the advert finished.
Filming
When it came down to filming everything went perfectly, everyone knew what they was doing and did it to the best of their ability. The only problem we had was with the wide range of shots we wanted but didn’t get, but we did end up getting enough to make the advert run smoothly.
Next Time
If I was to do this advert again I would make sure everything was done properly and not half-heartedly. I would have also made sure that we got the shots we wanted and we filmed everything that we needed to film, because missed bits out made the advert confusing and hard to put together.
Final Product
Our final product worked well and contained the criteria that it need to from the brief. The advert gives viewers an understanding of what is being advertised and what they have to do to ‘sign up’.  The advert gives out all the information that it needs to and is easy to follow.

For our NHS Project, me and my group got issued the Becoming a Member brief. Becoming a Member in terms of the hospital is to promote people to join the Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust. The Trust aims to be the safest organisation in the NHS through providing safe, clean and personal care to every patient.
At the beginning after reading the brief, we came up with a lot of ideas that we could use, wrote them down, and came up with a few more. But there was one particular idea that we had our heart set on. In the advert we wanted to include a daydream in which one or more of us appeared in, and starred in the clip. In the daydream we’d see one of us suddenly going in to a daydream, thinking about all of the different benefits that would appeal to the people of Salford. Following on from our chosen idea, we went on to filling out all the relevant pre-production material for our filming. As a group we allocated the different pre-production sheets equally across the 4 of us. We successfully completed the pre-production of the project and uploaded it all to the blog.
Before we could start filming we had to contact the communications department of the hospital and arrange times and staff for our filming. I sent them an email personally and they replied back to me with a suitable time and day. On the day of filming we were very prepared for the 2 hour shooting session and the staff who participated with us was really helpful and understood the message we were trying to get across. Before we started shooting, the 4 of us were speaking to the receptionist who was helping us and was appearing in our shots, and she encouraged us to actually sing up to become a member of the Foundation Trust. This was such a good move because once we were signed up; it would help us have more understanding and how much involvement we could have.
One of the issues that we encountered while filming was that the hospital were actually in the process of building work being done outside of where we wanted film, so we had to discuss certain shots and shoot them from another angle and place, as we couldn’t have this building work in the shots. We overcame this and we got better shots than we planned so it came good in the end. We also had to make sure we had enough filming to work with when it came to editing, so we shot a few of the same shots to ensure this.
The two members of staff from the hospital that helped us at the hospital were really encouraging in what we were doing and they gave us ideas, and suggested things we could do that we hadn’t already done. They also suggested certain camera angles that would look great on camera.
We finished filming after about an hour and a half; we had all the footage we needed and was really happy with what we had done in that time. We went back to college and looked through the shots once they had been put on the computer system.  The last thing we had to do now was create a project, import all the movie files and start editing!
Me and Mark from our group were in charge of editing the footage in Adobe Premiere. I feel like i took more control or putting the footage together at first and then i stepped back and let mark have a go with it. He made a new project and made his own version and it turned out that his version was great. For the one he made we got help from the technician in our college called Chris, who helped us put some after effects on the video.
There were a few issues with members of the group not being in we met the requirements as best as we could and pulled it together in the end and we are pleased with the final project.

For this assignment our brief was to create a 90 second advert for the NHS that would be shown in Salford Royal Hospital while people are waiting to be seen. We had a specific task for our advert – Becoming a Member. We had to highlight the positives of becoming a member of the NHS. We filmed our advert at Salford Royal Hospital and then edited the footage in Adobe Premier Pro. We had to stick to the NHS well known colours, blue black and white.
Our first task for this assignment was to as a group of four, create mind maps of what separate ideas we had and then we came together and discussed what we thought was the strongest idea of them all and then add and build on that. The final idea we came up with was a daydream like advert. This entailed editing being a main part of our production. We also had to choose whom we wanted to attract with the advert, we decided it applied to teenagers/young adults. So therefore we had to make sure our advert kept them interested.
After we had established our final idea to build on that and finalise it we all took on individual roles in the group. Between us we had to write up a treatment, a production diary, storyboards and a shooting. Once we had done this and they were all complete we then blogged them, the blog was also run by one person and they were in charge of the posts and making sure all of our work was on there as evidence.
Finding time to film at the hospital was quite difficult as we had to plan ahead and book time to film at the hospital a week in advance. We had less time filming at the hospital than planned. Altogether to film the advert we had two hours at the hospital. We filmed at the new main entrance and outside of the entrance.
Whilst filming we encountered two main problems. When people out of our group were off then somebody would also have to take on their role of whatever they were doing so we could still get all of the work done.
The second problem was whilst filming at Salford Royal. We were told we weren’t allowed to get hospital patients or staff in any of our shots. This proven quite difficult as obviously people were walking past to get to places so whilst we were filming they were in some of our shots. This meant we had to film again and try and do it when nobody was walking through the corridor we were filming in.
Other filming issues also included the camera we were using, obviously as we are students we didn’t have the highest quality camera equipment so we just had to work with what available equipment we had. We could have also planned ahead by sending an email to the staff at Salford Royal who was featuring in our film so they knew what to do to save time explaining when we arrived at the hospital. Personally I think we should of also tried out a few other camera angles when filming shots so we had more of a choice when it came to the editing.
As I was the team leader I had to direct the others and keep track of all the work that was being done. If we were to do this project over I would be more hands on instead of being so laid back about things and not really taking a leader approach.
The tasks I had to do were the production diary, the filming schedule and then be the director on the day of filming. The production diary required me writing down what we did on each day and where we were up to. The filming schedule was basically just planning when we would film at the hospital, what scenes we would be filming and then noting down where about in the hospital and how long for.
I think over all we did quite well in sticking to the initial brief we were given, we used the colours the client wanted and added everything what they asked for in to the video.
I think the hardest part was the editing as with the filming and planning we knew what we had to do as it had thoroughly talked about in detail so we knew what was required. However with the editing we haven’t had much experience so two people took on the role of the editors, the most experienced ones so we knew that our video would be of our highest standards.
Personally I think if I would have had to do the editing I would have struggled quite a bit finding the right time to cut clips etc as I’ve had very little experience in Adobe Premier Pro so I think working in a group was a good thing over all and we worked well.
I think everybody in the group had an equal amount of work to do as the two people acting do the editing and me and another did most of the writing and directing so it was split equally and nobody had too much to do.
To get more feedback on our film and to know what an audience viewing it thought about it, we asked our peers to view our short film and give their honest opinions to us. The kind of feedback we received was the following:
The transitions could be smoother instead of just cutting we could have faded the shots out so it’s not as obvious that the clip has been cut. However over all she thought it was put together well and she understood what was going on.
